The Sherrone Moore scandal is still reverberating across Ann Arbor, as the search for a new head coach continues for the Michigan Wolverines. Sherrone Moore’s improper relationship with staffer Paige Shiver, and his eventual dismissal and arrest by local police, rocked the Michigan athletic department early in the month, putting into question the school’s football program’s near and medium-term future.
However, for all the consequences Moore is facing – he might face up to six years in prison, and certainly his coaching career is done – some have argued that there have been few consequences for others involved. Some have pointed to Shiver not having lost her job, nor having had any inquiry into her role in the relationship.
Steven Godfrey went even further in a recent discussion about potential substitutes for Moore at Michigan. He said the school will need to clean house at the athletic department going forward, starting with athletic director Warde Manuel.
“We have no idea of the level of… internal revision review. I mean, they’re going to have to powerwash this athletic department from what everybody’s hearing,” said Godfrey on “College Football Required” on Monday (7:30)
The conversation then pivoted to Andy Staples, who said that Kyle Whittingham is the perfect coach for Michigan to have during this rocky cleanup, as it ensures that the Wolverines will win at least some games.
The former Utah Utes coach emerged as the top candidate for the Michigan opening in the last week, shortly after he stepped down from his long-time job at Utah.

Joel Klatt On Michigan Hiring Kyle Whittingham As Their new HC
Contrary to Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey, Joel Klatt seems to think that Warden Manuel should be praised for having navigated Michigan’s latest PR crisis dutifully:
“I had not heard his name. It was very quiet. It was below the surface.
Give Warde Manual a lot of credit on this one and everyone at Michigan, because this was not a name that a lot of people were floating around, including myself.“Listen, I love this hire, but I love this hire not just because I’m very fond of Kyle Whittingham and his style of coaching and his style of play in terms of the way his teams play, but because of what Michigan was facing in this entire ordeal.”
It’s certain that, for all the chaos that ensued in the weeks following Moore’s arrest, the Michigan Wolverines are having possibly the best outcome, bringing in a veteran and successful coach like Kyle Whittingham. Some might say he’s even an upgrade over Moore.
