Insider Names One Player That Will Have The Biggest Impact During Miami vs USF and It’s Not Carson Beck

ESPN’s Greg McElroy is looking beyond Miami’s star acquisition, Carson Beck and focusing on a completely different quarterback for the upcoming USF vs Miami game.

On ESPN’s Always College Football Show, McElroy made a bold statement regarding Miami’s upcoming clash against USF. The former Alabama quarterback turned analyst sang praises of Byrum Brown, insinuating that the he will be the most impactful player on the field.

“Byrum Brown, he’s the straw that stirs the drink for the Bulls. Now 6’3”, 230 lbs, he can beat teams with his arm and his legs. He’s throwing for 473 yards in the touchdown is also the team’s leading rusher right now with 109 yards and two scores on the ground. He’s a physical runner. He welcomes contact, but he does have a big arm and is capable of making any throw on the field,” McElroy stated (2:27).

“For USF to have a chance, I think Byrum Brown has to be the best player on the field,” he added (5:16).

So far this 2025 season, Byrum Brown has thrown for 473 passing yards and one touchdown.

Greg McElroy Predicts Miami To Win Over South Florida

Although Byrum Brown could affect the game, Greg McElroy’s total prediction overwhelmingly supports Miami. The ESPN analyst thinks the Hurricanes will win against South Florida.

“I think Miami wins this game. I think they win this game comfortably. It doesn’t feel good because I’ve liked so much what I’ve seen from USF. I just think Miami matches up better against USF than Florida and Boise State the last two weeks. I think Miami wins it. I think they win it running away. I’d lay the point,” McElroy predicted. In his last full season prior to injury concerns, Brown rushed for 809 yards and 11 touchdowns, making him one of the more athletic quarterbacks in the American Conference. Also, since he is a physical runner who embraces contact, he offers defensive coordinators an additional concern.

At the same time, Carson Beck enters this matchup with his own accolades. The former Georgia starter has already impressed with his arm talent and has thrown for 472 yards, 4 touchdowns and 89.3 QBR in the already early part of the season. Further, his career totals at Georgia were impressive going for 7,912 passing yards with 58 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions.
