The Cleveland Browns may have gotten the biggest steal of the 2025 NFL draft with Shedeur Sanders, who was predicted to go in the first round. However, the Browns have a very unique quarterback situation with four big stars all vying for that coveted starting QB spot. The question now is, is rookie Shedeur good enough to be the starter?
According to analyst Tony Rizzo, that may not be the case, as he believes that the favorites to be the Browns’ starting quarterback will be either Dillon Gabriel or Kenny Pickett.
“The number one question is, what’s the order? What’s the order? We’re off four weeks, five weeks. They had their meetings, give me quarterback 1, 2, 3, 4 when training camp starts on Wednesday. And believe me folks, Andrew Barry is calling the shots here for that, he is,” Tony Rizzo said on ESPN Cleveland.
“Now, what happens on the field might be different than what he wants and I trust the coaches that they would do what’s best for the team,” he added. “I’m telling you that I believe that Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel are the two guys that I’d be looking at right now to start.”
The Browns reportedly put more on Dillon Gabriel’s in OTAs and minicamp than they originally planned.

The Browns have the most unique quarterback situation in the NFL, as the team now has to decide between Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and Shedeur Sanders. All four are considered viable options for starting quarterback for the Browns.

Shedeur Sanders Getting Starting QB Spot Is Still Possible
Despite all of this, the path to QB1 for Shedeur Sanders is still very much possible. He may likely not get the Week 1 start, but ESPN analyst Sam Acho believes it is still possible.
It was noted that at training camp, Sanders was performing better than fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel and this may be enough for the former Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback to get the start. However, Acho noted that this would still require both Pickett and Flacco to struggle early on in the season.
Should the two veterans struggle, Coach Kevin Stefanski might be forced to change tactics later in the season and start with Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel.
