North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick became the subject of another joke after he was rumored to be finalizing a deal to hire Bobby Petrino as the offensive coordinator. Petrino would replace Freddie Kitchens, who was fired after a weak offensive display from the team.
The reason why this potential deal is getting negative attention is because of the history associated with Petrino, who was involved in a motorcycle accident off Arkansas Highway 16 in April 2012, suffering broken ribs and a cracked vertebra. Petrino initially said he was riding alone, but a police report stated that he was in the company of a young female staffer named Jessica Dorrell, a former volleyball player. When the affair between the two came out, Petrino was fired for dishonesty and ethical violations.
Belichick, who himself is dating 25 year old Jordon Hudson, has become a part of a viral online meme, where he, Petrino and Hudson are all riding on the same motorcycle. College football insider John Middlekauff expressed shock at why Belichick would hire a character like Petrino in the first place, given the negativity that will come with the hiring.
“You hired Bobby Petrino? How did that happen? That might be the funniest s**t to ever happen,” Middlekauff said on his podcast. “This thing feels as likely to work as the Jets’ quarterback situation year in and year out. This thing is destined to blow up. And that’s what this thing feels like. I mean, Belichick with his 25-year-old girlfriend. You’ve got Petrino, who had one of the most historic pictures in the history of the internet when he fell off that motorcycle.”
Middlekauff also talked about the already flying memes with the three of them involved, doing the rounds on the internet.
“The memes today, the motorcycles and Belichick riding in the little side seat, I can’t tell you how many people in the NFL forwarded me those pictures. What are you doing this for?” Middlekauff asks Belichick.

Why Bill Belichick Is Hiring Bobby Petrino?
Bill Belichick’s North Carolina offense was one of the worst in college football this season, and it played a large part in why the Tar Heels finished their season 4-8. They ranked near the bottom in both scoring and total yards nationally.
In Petrino, Belichick wants to use his experience as an offensive coordinator. Petrino has been the coach of a number of college football teams, including Louisville, Arkansas, Western Kentucky, and Missouri State. His Arkansas team posted a 0-7 record with him in the interim head coach position, but his offense was rated highly.
It remains to be seen whether this controversial combination produces results in Chapel Hill.
