Though it’s not confirmed that the Los Angeles Rams will draft a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, reports suggest the team’s QB position might need a change. Right now, it may not feel urgent, but with Matthew Stafford entering his 17th NFL season and taking things year by year, the team is clearly planning ahead.
The veteran quarterback is also open to the idea. Stafford said he would welcome his future successor with open arms and train him if the team decides to draft one.

Matthew Stafford Embraces Leadership Role Amid Rams’ Quarterback Speculation
As the 2025 NFL Draft draws closer, the Los Angeles Rams are weighing their options for the 26th overall pick. This opens the door for a potential quarterback selection, whether in the first round or later in the draft. While the team hasn’t confirmed its plans yet, Stafford has addressed the rumors with a team-first mindset.
In a recent interview, Stafford shared that he’s completely open to mentoring a young quarterback if the Rams decide to draft one during Draft Week. “Whoever we draft, I hope they come in and help our team win,” he said.
Reflecting on the success of last year’s two defensive picks, the veteran QB added, “I’m just trying to load this team up with as many good players as we possibly can. If a quarterback comes along and they feel the need to take him, [I’d] welcome him with open arms and try to teach him as much as I possibly can.”

Stafford remains a strong and reliable quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. At 37 years old and entering his 17th NFL season, he continues to perform at a high level, leading the team and contributing to its success.
However, there’s no guarantee that he will stay with the Rams for his entire career, even though coach Sean McVay has mentioned that he never seriously thought Stafford would leave.
“I think anytime those kind of things come up, you’re obviously doing due diligence and looking around,” Stafford said. “You obviously poke your head around and see what’s going on.” His agent even got the green light from the Rams to explore possible trade options.

So, with the 37-year-old in the later stages of his career, it’s not surprising if the Rams are thinking about the long-term future of the quarterback position.
