Former 5-Star Florida State WR Hykeem Williams Breaks Silence on Why He Chose Deion Sanders’ Colorado

Hykeem Williams was one of the most sought-after players in the 2023 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound wide receiver was a consensus five-star, and 247Sports had him ranked as the 30th best player in the entire country.

Williams committed to the Florida State Seminoles, where he saw relatively little playing time, only catching 17 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns in his first two seasons. This year, Williams transferred to the Colorado Buffaloes and recently broke his silence behind the reasoning for his commitment.

Hykeem Williams Explains Why He Chose Colorado in the Transfer Portal

In a behind-the-scenes style video from Reach the People Media, Williams was asked why he chose Colorado out of the transfer portal.

Williams responded with, “Production. I mean it’s the best here for, honestly, getting put on the biggest showcase, it connects. You’re getting coached by the best, they’ve done did it, a lot of NFL comes through here, so why not?”

Williams is absolutely right about the production increase that he should see at Colorado this season. The Buffaloes lost their top four most productive receivers to the NFL last season and desperately needed help at that position.

Williams should slide and immediately become the WR1 in Colorado’s offense in 2025. He will also have another transfer player, Kaidon Salter, as his quarterback, who has been great throughout his college career. Consistency at the quarterback position should only help Williams thrive more.

Not only is he the clear-cut wide receiver one in the Buffaloes’ offense heading into 2025, but the Colorado coaching staff is used to developing transfer wide receivers. LaJohntay Wester, Will Sheppard, Jimmy Horn, and Travis Hunter were all transfer receivers who were put into the NFL via Colorado’s coaching staff.

Williams is also right about Colorado’s coaching staff. A lot of the Buffaloes’ coaches are former NFL players who have insights that most staff in the country can’t give. This should help Williams further develop his game.

With a good 2025 season at Colorado, there’s no doubt that Williams can drastically raise his draft stock and be selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. He has the prototypical size and athleticism to do so, and with a major bump in his target share, he could easily become one of the best receivers in the country.
