Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze had a massive quarterback battle between Jackson Arnold, Ashton Daniels and Deuce Knight. He ultimately chose Arnold to be QB1 for the 2025 season, but all three played so well that he may be considering playing all three of them during their Week 0 showdown against the Baylor Bears.
During a press conference during the Auburn training camp, the Tigers head coach was asked if he would play all three of his quarterbacks against the Bears on Aug. 29. He revealed that the answer is “yes,” he may be playing all three of them during their season opener.

The coach noted that the offensive staff likes where Ashton Daniels or Deuce Knight are at right now and he could place them in the game if necessary. He also gave the two backup quarterbacks some high praise.
“Pleased with both,” he told reporters. “Think that there’s a place for both depending on the scenario in the game. You know, without giving away too much, I think, you know, there’s a place for both of those guys that you can play to their strengths, and we won’t be afraid to do that.”
Jackson Arnold will still be opening the game for Auburn, as many felt he earned that spot. However, the other two quarterbacks will take any chance to get that starting position should he fail to deliver. Daniels is a very experienced quarterback, while Deuce Knight, a five-star freshman, has plenty to prove and is hungry for the opportunity.

Hugh Freeze All Praises for 5-Star Freshman QB Deuce Knight
Hugh Freeze may have gotten the QB1 nod, but head coach Hugh Freeze is still very big on his freshman QB Deuce Knight. He was a five-star recruit, ranked the No. 3 quarterback from the Class of 2025 and he was the one who showed a lot of promise during the training camp. He was all praises for Knight during the camp.
“He’s getting better. You know, I think, I mean, as far as sitting in there and making the throw, he’s ready. He can do that,” Hugh Freeze said.
However, the Auburn head coach noted that the freshman still has a lot of things he must improve on, including his mental game. However, he did praise Knight’s arm, saying he can make all the throws and that he would not hesitate putting Knight in a game if needed.
