$12M Worth Hugh Freeze Snubs Golf Criticism With Humor As Auburn Braces for Make-or-Break 2025

Hugh Freeze’s golfing habits have come under scrutiny in the last few weeks. It came on the heels of a report by AL.com, which revealed that the Auburn Tigers has been spending more time playing the sport as compared to his fellow SEC coaches. The report stated that Freeze played 10 rounds of golf in June ahead of the 2025 college football season.

Analysts and pundits alike criticised him for neglecting the Tigers’ recruiting game in the key summer months, as the program fell in the rankings and blue-chip prospects de-committed from Auburn.

Now, this week, $12M worth Hugh Freeze (as per Celebrity Net Worth), has had the chance to reply to the critics on an appearance on “See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack” podcast. When asked about the rhetoric surrounding his golfing habits, Freeze had this to say:

“Yeah, you know, everybody seems to like to talk about my golf game. It’s not as good as it used to be… Jill (Freeze) is going to, with the GHIN system, she is most days going to beat me right now… And if she’s not beating me, when it gets to the last few holes, she somehow comes up with a new GHIN system that gives her a distinct advantage to win.” (20:08)

Freeze refused to apologize for his hobbies, stating that despite his love for golfing, he has never missed a camp day or a recruiting day.

“If camp got over at three o’clock one day, and Jill [Freeze’s wife] and I go out at 4:30, we absolutely might do that,” he admitted. “And I’m not apologizing for that part of it. But my focus is 100% on getting Auburn in that win column this fall.”

Hugh Freeze on what to expect from Jackson Arnold going into the 2025 season

Hugh Freeze also spoke during the interview about more football-related matters, including the progression of starting quarterback Jackson Arnold and what he saw in him when he brought him to Auburn from Oklahoma:

“Well, David, truthfully it comes back to what I saw from him out of high school. I just thought he was elite. He was gatorade player of the year and maybe the No. 1 quarterback in the country coming out of high school. Everybody wanted him and I thought he had all of the natural ability that it takes to run the offense I want to run…”

Arnold threw for 1421 yards, with 12 touchdown passes and three interceptions in 2024 with the Oklahoma Sooners. His 47.8 QBR was the 91st best in the nation, and he ran for 444 yards with three rushing touchdowns.

Jackson Arnold’s stint as the starter for Oklahoma was a disappointing one, with the team ending with an overall record of 6-7, which included a defeat in the Armed Forces Bowl to Navy.
