ESPN’s “College GameDay” kicks off Week 1 in Texas with a must-watch ranked clash between No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 20 Texas A&M. Marcus Freeman aims to lead the Fighting Irish to their first College Football Playoff berth in the newly expanded bracket. Meanwhile, Mike Elko begins his tenure with the Aggies, facing his former Duke QB Riley Leonard, now at Notre Dame. Here’s how to listen to the game on the radio.

Elko discussed playing against his former starting quarterback of the last two years prior to the matchup, saying, “It’s interesting and weird and not really something I want to do. But at the end of the day, it’s part of the game. I have a tremendous amount of respect for who he is, not just as a player but also as a young man. I have respect for his family. It’ll be three hours competing against each other and the rest of the year rooting for him.”

Injuries limited Leonard to just seven games last season, but he broke out in 2022, throwing for 2,794 yards and 20 touchdowns while running for 636 yards and 11 more scores en route to nine wins.

Leonard isn’t the only QB in this matchup returning from an injury-riddled 2023 campaign, as Texas A&M starter Conner Weigman suffered a season-ending foot injury after just four games. When healthy, Weigman can be a true difference-maker, landing at No. 6 in College Football Network’s 2024 SEC QB rankings.

The Aggies and Fighting Irish face off for the first time since 2001, when Texas A&M defeated Notre Dame 24-3 at Kyle Field. However, that’s ancient history. You know what isn’t? Notre Dame has won six of its last seven season openers, including a 4-2-1 record against ranked opponents in Week 1.
