The Arizona State Sun Devils continue building off a magical 2024 season in the transfer portal. Their most recent addition comes from Northern Illinois.

ASU Adds JUCO Standout WR Akim Lanieux
According to ASU 247, the Sun Devils were able to land 6’7″ pass catcher Akim Lanieux in the transfer portal this week. Lanieux was slated to play for the Northern Illinois Huskies but decided to transfer to the Big 12 for this season.
The Louisiana native was a big-time player at Dodge City Community College when given an opportunity. In 2024, he averaged 18.9 yards per reception before transferring to Northern Illinois.
His 20 receptions for 378 yards and two touchdowns in nine games also proved that he has the potential to be a quality player in a more competitive league. He now has the chance to be a key option in head coach Kenny Dillingham’s offense out in the desert.
Arizona State is Not Messing Around
In just two years, Dillingham has transformed the Sun Devils into a real college football power. After guiding the school to just three wins in his first season at the helm in 2023, he won 11 games in 2024. Not only did he win 11 games, but his team won the Big 12 and earned a spot in the College Football Playoff.
They were a fourth-down stop away from beating the Texas Longhorns and moving on to the second round. Thanks to the play of former All-American and current New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo, the offense proved to be quite formidable. Now, with Skattebo gone, all-conference quarterback Sam Leavitt is going to have to find new weapons to trust.

One of those options could very well be Lanieux. 6’7″ wide receivers do not grow on trees, which is why the Sun Devils have a golden opportunity to pick up right where they left off.
Remember, Dillingham’s offense scored 30 or more points in nine of the team’s 14 games. If and when this team decides to enter the red zone and Lanieux is out there on the field, it could be lights out for any opposing defense.
