The 2024 season was far from the best for Michigan football. Despite coming off a national championship the previous year, the Wolverines had a season of inconsistencies and injuries. They ended the season with an 8–5 overall record, with a 5–4 conference record.
The man tasked with steadying the ship has also been suspended for two games in 2025 in response to the previous administration’s sign-stealing scandal. However, despite all controversies, Michigan has stood by its head coach. It turns out the college has immense faith in its coach.

Sherrone Moore’s Shock Rise to Becoming Michigan’s Head Coach
Sherrone Moore’s journey to becoming the head coach of the Wolverines, it turns out, was no slow climb. In an interview with Adam Breneman, Moore went on to talk about the moment that he became the Wolverines’ coach.
As Moore himself puts it, “Coach Harbaugh gets hired with the Chargers and kind of knew what was going to happen—had an idea—and the announcement was made. I was actually in Houston. I get a call from Warde Manuel, our AD. He’s like, ‘Hey, where are you?’”
The process of landing the Michigan job didn’t follow a script for Sherrone Moore.

Manuel, according to Moore, went on to tell the coach to “get on a plane right now.” And Moore did just that. “I get here. I’m in Schoenbeck. We’re probably there till three in the morning, setting up, getting my interview right. I do my interview the next day,” added Moore.
Then came the 48-hour wait, which was followed by, as Moore puts it, “I become the head coach. And I had no idea… There’s so many things to do. So many things to get done. Being hired in January also means a lot of prep to be done with the Wolverines. It was a headfirst dive into deep waters.”
And the stakes are always high when it comes to the Wolverines and football. Moore, after all, was not just replacing a coach; he was replacing Jim Harbaugh. With his hire, Moore became the first Black head coach in Michigan history.
Despite a bumpy ride, Moore did have some big wins. Michigan went on to beat Ohio State in Columbus as a 20.5-point underdog. The Wolverines also took down Alabama in a bowl game to become the only team ever to beat the Tide twice in a calendar year. While the stats did not scream greatness, the numbers don’t tell the full story.
Sherrone Moore is the same man who built Michigan’s offensive line into a machine with back-to-back Joe Moore Awards, a Rimington winner, and 120 rushing TDs over three seasons. He is the man who helped turn Blake Corum and Hassan Haskins into legends. As OC, he led a unit that was top 10 in almost every stat that mattered.
And as a recruiter, Moore locked down Bryce Underwood. Underwood was the No. 1 high school player in the nation. In a storm of scandal, shifting rosters, and high expectations, Moore grabbed the reins, owned the moment, and reminded everyone why Michigan believed in him in the first place.
Now, heading into Year 2 of the Moore Dynasty in Ann Arbor, all eyes will be on how the coach can continue building.
