Nick Saban’s Age: How Old is the Legendary Alabama Coach?

Nick Saban was born on October 31, 1951, making him 72 years old at the time of his retirement. Saban had coached at Alabama since the 2007 season and had been in a coaching role of some kind since 1973.

Saban’s career stems back to the 70s just as his playing days do. He started his college football career with Kent State as a defensive back in 1970 before shifting to a graduate assistant role for the 1973-74 seasons.

With two stints in the NFL, it was abundantly clear that Saban’s best coaching came at the collegiate level. Though falling short in overtime to Michigan just days prior to his retirement, Saban amassed a ridiculous 292-71-1 record at the college level.

Saban, who turned 72 during this past season, won seven national championships and 11 SEC titles over his career. With a MAC championship under his belt in his lone season at the helm of Toledo, Saban won a whopping 12 conference championships in his career.

The list of accolades also include a 19-12 bowl record and multiple Coach of the Year award victories. He was most recently named the SEC Coach of the Year in 2020.

Alabama won six national championships and three College Football Playoff National Championship Games during Saban’s time in Tuscaloosa.
