‘His Agenda Has Been Known’ — ESPN Analyst Sparks Backlash With Lukewarm Dillon Gabriel vs. Shedeur Sanders Assessment

With the 2025 NFL Draft now in the books, teams are building their squads for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. The Cleveland Browns, after drafting two rookie quarterbacks, have a bit of quarterback competition in Cleveland for the starting quarterback spot.

Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel will compete with former Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. ESPN Analyst Tony Grossi recently joined “The Really Big Show” on ESPN Cleveland to discuss the quarterback competition, and his appearance sparked some backlash.

Fans Slam Tony Grossi Over Lukewarm Take on Dillon Gabriel vs. Shedeur Sanders

Tony Grossi said Gabriel looked “a little bit” better than Sanders, and college football fans and Sanders fans alike chimed in on the take, sharing their own takes on the highlights.

“I thought on both days, Dillon Gabriel looked a little bit better,” Grossi says. “He has a tight spiral. He throws a beautiful ball. He’s very assertive. He knows the pocket, and you can tell that, even though they’re not rushing. Pocket presence, that arm strength, and I thought…”

When asked about Gabriel’s height, Grossi said “not in this venue.” “It’s touch football right now,” says Grossi. “The numbers are the only thing that don’t lie. Yeah, he’s 5-foot-11, so yeah, he’s short.” Grossi said his height could be an issue in the future, but right now it’s not.

“I thought Gabriel looked a little better on both days,” Grossi says. “It doesn’t mean Shedeur is a bust or anything. Just the other guy looks better.”

This drew some backlash from Sanders fans and college football fans, with one user writing, “Dillon Gabriel was a Journeyman in College. He could never find a stable Home. He went to an Oregon School that was already winning. Shedeur helped restore and rebuild football programs. Idk but that speaks volumes to me.”

Another user wrote, “I like Tony tbh but he’s definitely biased on this subject due to him not wanting to draft Sheduer months ago and his ego won’t allow him to speak truths.”

Some replies were not so nice: “Lmaooooo, someone get this loser off the air, man. His agenda has been known,” an X, formerly Twitter, user wrote.

Overall, Cleveland has some questions that have to be answered before the start of the 2025 NFL season. Perhaps the most pressing question is who will be the signal-caller come Week 1, and will it be Sanders or Gabriel?
