The Boston College Eagles gave the No. 16 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets a massive scare on Saturday, as the 1-10 Eagles almost defeated a top-25 team in the country. Arguably the biggest factor in that win for Georgia was quarterback Haynes King, who played one of the best games of his career, as the Yellow Jackets beat the Eagles 36-34.
The quarterback threw for 371 yards, thus setting the Georgia Tech record for the most career 300-yard passing games, at eight. He has now broken the previous record, which was set in 1999 by Joe Hamilton, who came up second in the Heisman Trophy race that year.

Haynes King completed 26 of his 34 passes to set the record, thus preserving the Yellow Jackets’ place on top of the ACC standings. They had to rally twice in the game’s fourth quarter alone, which was important, as this kept their CFP hopes alive, along with their potential spot in the ACC title game.
After the win, Georgia Tech improves to a 9-1 overall record, and is currently 6-1 in the ACC. Meanwhile, Boston College went down to 1-10, with the Eagles playing purely to win, given that they have no chance of making the CFP this year.

Georgia Tech Now Campaigning For Haynes King To Win Heisman Trophy
Meanwhile, the Georgia Tech Athletics Department has launched an official campaign to have their top quarterback, Haynes King, win the Heisman Trophy, the most coveted individual award in college football. King’s stock as a Heisman candidate has only grown as the season has progressed, and the recent gritty record-breaking game he had against Boston College may have helped his case further.
As for the school, they have launched a “Haynes for Heisman” page on their official website, and it talks about all the buzz surrounding the quarterback, from praises from well-known CFB analysts to some of his highlights this year. It also shared some videos from YouTube, praising King.
For now, King is ranked No. 6 by Sports Illustrated, with the magazine considering him one of the longshots, alongside Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia (5) and Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (7). Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza currently leads the rankings at No. 1.
