Jim Harbaugh To Reunite With Colston Loveland? Chargers Predicted To Land Michigan Star TE

Could Jim Harbaugh Draft Colston Loveland?

In a recent ESPN mock draft from NFL analyst Mike Tannenbaum, he has Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers selecting Michigan tight end Coltston Loveland with the 22nd overall pick.

This is significant because Loveland played for Harbaugh at Michigan before Harbaugh became the head coach of the Bolts.

The Chargers are in need of a solid tight end after Will Dissly led the tight end room in receiving with just 481 yards. Even though the team did also recently sign Tyler Conklin, perhaps drafting a rookie like Loveland could be the move.

If he is there at the 22nd spot, it would not be a surprise to see Harbaugh make the move to bring him in.

    Loveland’s Run at Michigan

The 20-year-old Loveland and former All-American helped Harbaugh and the Wolverines win a national title a few seasons ago.

In that title-winning season (2023), he recorded 649 yards and four touchdowns on 45 receptions. In 2024, he would go on to record 56 receptions for 582 yards and five touchdowns.

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing nearly 250 pounds, the Idaho native is young, big, and talented. Especially for a quarterback like Justin Herbert, who is looking to push the ball down the field, Loveland could be a real weapon for him, especially in the red zone.

With the additions of a big-play threat in Mike Williams, along with the emergence of young wide receiver Ladd McConkey last season, this group could be one of the more dangerous groups in the NFL. Not to mention the fact that the team was able to sign four-time 1,000-yard running back Najee Harris in free agency, too.
