In the world of college sports, relationships between athletes often draw as much attention as their performances on the field. The recent transfer of former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck to the Miami Hurricanes has sparked speculation.
Many wondered if his girlfriend, Miami women’s basketball star Hanna Cavinder, played a role in his decision. With rumors circulating, Cavinder has now stepped forward to set the record straight.

As speculation intensified regarding Beck’s move to Miami, many assumed that Cavinder’s presence at the university influenced his decision. However, the Hurricanes’ basketball guard firmly denied having any part in his transfer. Speaking with ESPN’s Christine Williamson on Tuesday’s episode of SportsCenter, Cavinder dismissed the rumors.

“Honestly, I was not involved at all,” Cavinder stated, according to On3’s Grant Grubbs. “I know that a lot of people probably think that. But no, I was not involved at all.”
She further elaborated that Beck made his decision based solely on what was best for his football career.
“It was honestly what was the best decision for him and where he was gonna fit and be able to be successful. I’m super excited for him. It’s very convenient. Obviously, you can’t beat Miami and the people here.”
Beck and Cavinder’s relationship became public in August 2024, just ahead of what many believed would be Beck’s final college football season at Georgia.
However, after a challenging year saw him struggle with passing accuracy and throw a career-high 12 interceptions. Beck ultimately opted to withdraw from the 2025 NFL Draft and enter the transfer portal instead.
Carson Beck’s Decision and Miami’s Pursuit
Just one day after announcing his decision to transfer, Beck committed to the University of Miami. It was a move that instantly made headlines. According to The Athletic’s Manny Navarro and Bruce Feldman, the Hurricanes coaching staff had identified Beck as “the only quarterback Miami really wanted” during the offseason.
Financial considerations also played a significant role in Beck’s transition. Reports from Front Office Sports indicated that Beck had already amassed nearly $10 million in brand endorsements. These deals were facilitated through Miami’s NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) collective before officially making the switch.

As for Beck, he is now preparing to step into the role of starting quarterback for Miami following the departure of Cam Ward.
Though Cavinder has repeatedly denied any involvement in his decision, the timing of Beck’s transfer will continue to fuel speculation. Now, all eyes will be on him as he takes on the challenge of leading the Hurricanes to success.
