Gunner Rivers, a top quarterback prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle and son of eight-time Pro Bowler Philip Rivers, is drawing national attention with both his lineage and performance.

As the University of Texas hosts its 2027 QB Elite Camp in Austin, Rivers arrives with a strong NFL background and rising on-field reputation. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is beginning to refine his quarterback shortlist for the class, while the Longhorns continue evaluating a deep pool of in-state talent to establish early recruiting momentum.

Texas Hosts Gunner Rivers, Top 2027 QB Prospect, at Elite Camp

Gunner Rivers, the highly touted quarterback from Alabama and eldest son of former NFL star Philip Rivers, visited Austin as Texas hosted its 2027 QB Elite Camp. Gunner, who plays under his father at St. Michael’s Catholic High School in Fairhope, is rapidly gaining national attention for both his pedigree and production.

Rivers’ sophomore campaign featured 3,947 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, just six interceptions, and a 63% completion rate. Over two seasons, he has totaled more than 7,000 yards through the air and 70 touchdowns with only 10 interceptions—highlighting his decision-making and command of the position.

Rated No. 4 nationally among 2027 quarterbacks by the 247Sports Composite and No. 7 by the On3 Industry Rankings, Rivers is also ranked as the top player in Alabama by On3 and second in the state by 247Sports. Overall, On3 lists him as the No. 57 prospect in the class.

Texas, which is zeroing in on its 2027 quarterback targets, welcomed Rivers to a camp that also featured top signal-callers Colton Nussmeier and Peyton Houston. College interest in Rivers is already strong, with offers from NC State—where his father starred—along with Auburn, South Carolina, Boston College, and Miami.

Auburn has offered early, while Alabama is actively recruiting him despite not yet extending a formal offer.

Described by his father as a “pocket passer that runs well enough,” Gunner is expected to grow into a 6’3″ or 6’4″, 220-pound frame. His blend of accuracy, mobility, and maturity continues to elevate his profile.

“He’s pretty much who he is going to be,” Rivers said. “Gunner is a pocket passer that runs well enough. He will end up being 6-(foot-)3 or 6-4 and about 220 pounds. He’s real humble about it all. He doesn’t love all the attention.”

Texas hosting the Elite Camp reinforces its commitment to identifying and pursuing top-tier quarterback talent early in the cycle—and Rivers’ presence only amplified the event’s significance.
