Grey Zabel’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Grey Zabel is a versatile lineman with the ability to play just about anywhere along the offensive line, but likely projects best as an interior player in the NFL. With the thin center group in the 2025 NFL Draft – as well as Zabel’s accurate snaps at the Senior Bowl – he could project best as a center in this particular class.

Zabel is a powerful offensive lineman who generates serious push as a blocker on the move. He applies a “take no prisoners” mentality when he locks up at the point of attack. As a shorter-armed blocker who needs to work on his knee bend, Zabel could face some limitations at the NFL, particularly in his rookie year.

Nevertheless, Zabel is a high-end athlete with the combined size, twitch, flexibility, football IQ, violent hands, and mauler mentality to thrive at any interior spot. As he builds up his play strength, his outlook should only improve.

    Grey Zabel’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Zabel landed in Round 2 with the 34th overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

The Giants need offensive line help — what else is new? Grey Zabel can serve as a pinch starter at tackle, though he truly translates best at guard, even fitting in at center. His versatility makes him a key piece in bolstering the Giants’ line.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Zabel’s selection to the Houston Texans in Round 1 with the 25th pick:

The Houston Texans have Tytus Howard and Juice Scruggs listed as the starting guards for now, but with the release of Shaq Mason, Houston needs some more big bodies inside. Grey Zabel, an FCS All-American with the North Dakota State Bison, would add depth and most likely push for the starting spot at one of the interior positions.

Zabel has bulked up more than 70 pounds since he arrived on campus, and the 6’6″, 312-pound is the road grader that C.J. Stroud and 1,000-yard back Joe Mixon could continue making a living behind.
