Returning to the College Football Playoff is the Clemson Tigers’ priority in the 2025 college football season.
While the Clemson Tigers finished the last season with a 10-4 overall record, with Cade Klubnik leading the Tigers to the ACC Championship, Klubnik and the Tigers are looking to kick off this season with higher expectations.
His numbers speak volumes on why many consider him a top quarterback for the 2025 class. As it stands, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy believes the same regarding the Tigers’ 2022 recruit.
Greg McElroy Makes Bold Claim About Cade Klubnik’s Rise at Clemson
While many talented passers are predicted to draw national attention this forthcoming season, Klubnik is the number one spot for many, including McElroy.
In a video of the top 10 best college football quarterbacks, the analyst shared his perspective on why Klubnik has the number one spot for him.
“At number one, the coveted number one spot here on the annual college football quarterback rankings, we are going with Cade Klubnik of the Clemson Tigers,”- mentioned McElroy.
The quarterback had one of his best seasons last season, completing 63.4% of his pass attempts for 3,639 yards, 36 TDs, and six interceptions. Moreover, the quarterback ran for 463 yards and seven TDs on the ground.
While discussing the numbers last season, the ESPN analyst added the quarterback’s contributions.
“But he also showed a willingness to contribute with an awful lot with his legs. That was not something he did a ton of the year before. Last year, he became a lot more a part of how he attacked the opposing defense,” said McElroy.
“He’s got the potential and the wheels to take it the distance from a long way out. But I loved how much he improved from 2023. So, I’m banking on that improvement only growing more significantly with another year in the offense with Garrett Riley, with another year developing a rapport with what I think is an outstanding wide receiver core.”- The analyst mentioned.
While it took a little time for the former five-star recruit to reach the heights he was destined to with the Tigers, the ACC Championship run last season and a playoff berth shifted the gears for Klubnik moving forward.

Klubnik took over the starting role back in 2023 after serving as a backup as a true freshman. While inconsistency has haunted his momentum for a while, the quarterback’s breakout season was the 2024 season.
On Aug 30 in Death Valley, Klubnik and the Tigers will kick the season off in a big way, hosting star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU Tigers.
