Syracuse defensive back Greg Delaine showed up late to a 6:30 a.m. meeting last season, just a few days before he was scheduled to start against California.
That mistake has propelled him forward ever since.

Greg Delaine Motivated by the Setback
The soon-to-be junior cornerback’s mistake has clearly had a positive effect on him.
In an article written by insider Chris Carlson, Delaine used four words to describe how he is approaching his effort moving forward.
“I’m ten toes in.”
Being late to a 6:30 a.m. meeting cost Greg Delaine the chance to start the second game of his college career. He chose not to run from it and is fighting for a job against a wave of young talent and to prove he’s no Wally Pipp. “I’m ten toes in.” https://t.co/SkDFSPegbI

In sports, players make all kinds of mistakes.
But how they respond determines the course of their seasons, futures, and careers. The Fort Myers, Florida native recorded just seven total tackles and two pass deflections in 2024 after recording 11 total tackles and an interception in 2023.
Now that he is an upperclassman with seasoned experience, he will be a big part of this Organe defense this season.
Syracuse’s 2025 Season Hopes
Head coach Fran Brown will be heading into his second season at Syracuse after a very strong first year in western New York. The Orange won 10 games for just the second time in the last 23 seasons, and that is thanks in large part to future NFL quarterback Kyle McCord.
Now, McCord will be moving on, which means Brown will have to find his replacement this offseason. Also, the team’s schedule might be tough to overcome.
They will face Tennessee, Clemson, SMU, North Carolina, Miami, and Notre Dame. Aside from the matchup with Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels, each of those games will be on the road.
Keep in mind that Notre Dame made it all the way to the national title game, Tennessee was in the College Football Playoff a season ago, Clemson and SMU were both battling in the ACC Championship Game. Miami looks primed to contend for a title this season.
It is hard to say which way the season could turn for the Orange.

But if they were to win 10 or more games again, that would be huge for the team’s possible College Football Playoff hopes down the road.
