Georgia QB Jaden Rashada Shifting Focus to Spring Transfer Window. When Does It Open?

Jaden Rashada appears to be leaving Georgia. However, the latest rumors suggest he will wait until the spring transfer portal before making his move.

Jaden Rashada is no stranger to the transfer portal. After considering a move for the second time in as many seasons, it now seems the Georgia Bulldogs quarterback will wait until the spring transfer portal before finalizing his next move.

Jaden Rashada, Georgia Bulldogs Heading Toward Spring Split

Rashada entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago but remains on Georgia’s roster. The backup quarterback now appears to be holding off on making his decision until the spring.

On January 28, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Rashada is still weighing his options and preparing for a spring portal transfer. “Georgia transfer quarterback Jaden Rashada continues to evaluate his options and prepare for the spring transfer portal,” his agent, Jackson Zager, told Nakos.

“Rashada plans to work with a trainer and quarterback coach in the coming months to ramp up for the spring portal.”

The transfer portal is not unfamiliar territory for Rashada. The four-star recruit initially committed to the Miami Hurricanes but flipped to the Florida Gators. However, he began his college career at Arizona State after a high-profile NIL dispute.

Rashada reportedly signed a $13 million NIL contract in Gainesville but parted ways with the Gators after the money wasn’t paid before classes started due to the Gator Collective becoming defunct.

After spending his freshman year at Arizona State, Rashada entered the transfer portal, this time landing at Georgia, but he was third on the depth chart behind Carson Beck and Gunnar Stockton. With Georgia seemingly moving forward with Stockton as their starting quarterback for 2025, Rashada made the decision to enter the transfer portal again.

However, the high-profile passer has failed to gain much traction in the transfer portal. Nakos reported that Rashada’s team had conversations with the UCLA Bruins and Bill Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels, but no advance has been made on any initial discussions.

With potential destinations running out, Rashada appears to be waiting for the right opportunity, even if it comes in the Spring. Of course, Rashada can also return to Georgia if he decides his options are limited.

When Does the Spring Transfer Window Open?

The spring transfer portal will open on April 16 and close on April 25, 2025, giving student-athletes a brief 10-day window to enter their names. This is a significantly shorter window compared to the winter transfer portal, which opens in December and lasts 30 days.

Most player movement happens during the winter transfer portal, as both athletes and teams are eager to make moves before the start of the spring semester. However, the spring transfer portal plays a crucial role, particularly for teams that have experienced coaching changes or need to address specific roster needs.

For example, when Nick Saban retired in 2024, Alabama Crimson Tide players were granted 30 days to enter the portal due to NCAA rules allowing players to transfer following a coaching change. This provided Alabama with an opportunity to use the spring portal to fill any gaps left in their roster.

The spring window also serves as a final opportunity for teams to address weaknesses that may have been identified after spring practice. Teams can assess their rosters, evaluate areas needing improvement, and make last-minute additions before the season kicks off.
