Carson Beck led Georgia football with his elite arm for years and kept the Bulldogs on top in the SEC. But now, with Beck heading to Miami, Georgia is looking to Gunner Stockton to take over. This shift has led to a big question: Is Georgia’s offense better off without Beck?
Rusty Mansell, a well-known Georgia insider, recently explained why Stockton’s energy could reshape the team. His insights point to a positive future for the Bulldogs.

Rusty Mansell Breaks Down Why Gunner Stockton’s Energy Could Transform Georgia’s Offense in 2025
Rusty Mansell recently joined “That SEC Football Podcast” to talk about Georgia’s quarterback switch, and he had some strong takes. He admitted that Gunner Stockton may not match Beck’s pure arm talent, but that might not matter.
“Maybe not overall talent-wise compared to Carson Beck…but could Georgia’s offense be better even if the quarterback is maybe—I think energy-wise, Gunner’s a different player,” Mansell said.
Stockton’s leadership is already turning heads. He lives with four football teammates and has built real chemistry off the field. Mansell added, “I think people see the ‘aw, shucks’ and, you know, little country kid and all that. I’ve been around him. I’ve been around him a long time. I mean, this guy will drop an MLF on you—like, I’m sorry if his mom sees this. He’s got that about him.”
His breakout moment came in the SEC Championship Game against Texas. When Beck went down with an injury just before halftime, Georgia trailed 6-3. But Brock Stockton stepped in and turned things around. He led the Bulldogs to a thrilling 22-19 overtime win, proving he could fire up the offense when it counted most.
Recalling the moment, Manshell said, “He runs over a guy like the second play on the sidelines, and he gets up and kind of has some words with that Texas guy. Then he gets freaking KO’ed on the goal line—like dude’s out.” That toughness has quickly earned Stockton the respect of teammates and coaches alike.
Then came the Sugar Bowl. It was Stockton’s first career start, and he kept the momentum going. Even though Georgia lost 23-10 to Notre Dame, Stockton helped the Bulldogs outgain the Irish in total yards, 296 to 244. It was another sign that his potential is real.
While Georgia gears up for a new chapter with Gunner Stockton, former star Beck is starting fresh at Miami. Many expected him to declare for the NFL Draft, but Beck surprised fans by entering the transfer portal instead.
He’s recovering from elbow surgery and preparing to lead the Hurricanes in 2025. His goal is pretty simple. Bounce back strong, win in the ACC, and boost his stock for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, whether Beck’s departure will leave a void at Georgia remains a question. Rusty Mansell believes the Bulldogs are good to go with Stockton as QB1. However, the upcoming season will determine whether this transition strengthens Georgia or challenges their dominance.
