LSU Tigers star Garrett Nussmeier just made the biggest play of his life and it had nothing to do with football. The starting quarterback went down on one knee to propose to longtime girlfriend Ella Springfield in an intimate moment that has everyone they know sending in their wishful messages.
Nussmeier, who was previously at Nicholls State a few weeks ago, biding time with other top QBs at Manning Pass Academy, made Saturday evening count with the proposal and commitment to Ella.
She couldn’t hold herself back and shared the update through Instagram stories with an overlay text that read:
“I get to marry my best friend.”

The proposal appears to have taken place in a romantic outdoor setting, with the couple dressed in white. The ring was a radiant-cut diamond set in a gold band.
Everything There Is to Know About Garrett Nussmeier And Ella Springfield’s Relationship
Ella Springfield and Garrett Nussmeier both attended LSU. While Nussmeier served as the quarterback playing backup to former Heisman winner Jayden Daniels, Ella studied marketing. She joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and interned locally, building a life on campus.
In December, Ella celebrated her LSU graduation, sharing a heartfelt Instagram farewell:
“Came for the player, stayed for the lifelong memories and friendships made. #foreverlsu”

Ella isn’t just close to Garrett, she’s also tight with his sister, Ashlynn. Ella once shared:
“My favorite human. I love doing life with you.”
Meanwhile, on the football front, Garrett chose to return to LSU for his redshirt senior season. Last year, Nussmeier led the Tigers to a 9-4 record, completing 337 of 525 passes for 4,043 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also had three rushing touchdowns.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Nussmeier is not paying heed to NFL draft chatter surrounding him and is rather focused on bringing the national championship to LSU.
“For me, I’m just focused on our team,” Nussmeier said. “I’m focused on our team goals and I’m focused on being the best that I can be for my teammates. Obviously, you can’t completely ignore all the outside noise. You’re lying if you say that you don’t hear it. So I definitely hear it.
“As I spoke about, our team with the expectations coming from within, I obviously have expectations for myself, as well. The way that I kind of straddle those and keep those in check is focusing on our team. My main goal is to help lead the LSU Tigers to a national championship and let the rest fall into place.”
It remains to be seen if Nussmeier & Co. can go the distance in 2025.
