The LSU Tigers were looking to end the season on a high note by defeating the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 14. However, their regular-season finale turned ugly when star QB Garrett Nussmeier suffered what appeared to be a bad injury to his throwing shoulder in the second quarter.
The latest on Nussmeier doesn’t appear to be good for LSU’s signal-caller.
What Happened to Garrett Nussmeier?
On a 1st & 10 play from the 50-yard line, Nussmeier dropped back to pass early in the second quarter. Almost immediately, backside pressure was applied and Nussmeier was late to feel the pressure from Oklahoma’s R Mason Thomas.
Nussmeier was sacked at the 42-yard line, and all of the body weight from Thomas landed squarely on Nussmeier as he crutched to his right side — his throwing shoulder.
The ball popped free, but LSU recovered the ball as Nussmeier laid on the ground, writhing in pain.

When you break the video down a bit more, it becomes a bit more apparent of what may have happened.

That kind of hit usually ends up with a broken collarbone being the diagnosis, though we don’t want to speculate. Nussmeier walked off under his own power, grimacing in pain as he did, wincing and holding his shoulder the whole time.
As of right now, no official diagnosis has been delivered from LSU.
Former Vanderbilt QB AJ Swann replaced Nussmeier on the next play and the Tigers were forced to punt on the drive.
When more information is available around Nuissmeier’s injury, CFN will update you here.
