    Garrett Nussmeier Injury Update: Brian Kelly Reveals Latest On LSU QB Ahead Of Week 0 Opener vs Clemson

    The LSU Tigers have already hit a snag, and the new season has not yet even started, as quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is seemingly injured. However, head coach Bryan Kelly has provided an update on his Heisman Trophy candidate and revealed that Nussmeier does not have a torn ACL as many had feared, but patella tendinitis instead.

    “Brian Kelly says Nussmeier has patella tendinitis, not an ACL. He was throwing today and will likely be out there in “a practice situation.” #LSU,” tweeted reporter Scott Rabalais.

    Numerous reports have popped up that Nussmeier suffered an injury during practice, with many speculating it may have been a torn ACL. However, Kelly revealed that the quarterback will be getting some throwing practices before finally getting to join the rest of the team for a full practice.

    “Tendinitis is managed every single day around the world for all kinds of different ailments,” said Kelly after the training camp. . “… Just like a bad ankle that you’re going to come back in (for), he’ll be back out (there).”

    Kelly also noted that they still have no idea how the injury occurred or which leg the tendinitis is coming from. He added that for now, Garrett Nussmeier is still experiencing the aftereffects of a surgery he had back in 2023, which reduced some inflammation in his knee. He repeatedly assured fans that there was nothing to worry about and that there was no fraying or torn muscles in the quarterback’s leg.

    Garrett Nussmeier Added to Prestigious Award’s Watchlist

    Meanwhile, as LSU fans held their breath if their star quarterback’s injury was serious or not, Garrett Nussmeier himself is now in line to possibly win a prestigious award.

    The watchlist for the Davey O’Brien award was announced on Thursday, and Garrett Nussmeier made the list. The award is usually given to the best quarterback in the country, with this being the latest award he may be winning this year, in addition to the Maxwell Award and the biggest one of them all, the Heisman Trophy.

    Should he win, Nussmeier will become the third quarterback from LSU to ever win the award, with Joe Burrow previously winning it in 2019 and Jayden Daniels winning it in 2023.
