Carson Beck was indeed one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in college football, especially during his time at Georgia. He was a highly touted prospect, and his performance, along with his NIL deal, drew significant attention. At one point, some even thought he could be a major contender for the Heisman Trophy.
For that reason, the Miami Hurricanes secured his commitment, believing the 23-year-old would dominate on the field. But now some insiders are saying that ever since he moved to the Hurricanes, his hype and stock have dropped quite a bit.

Insider Explains What’s Gone Wrong with Carson Beck Since His Miami Transfer
Carson Beck, who transferred from Georgia to Miami this offseason, is expected to take the lead as the Hurricanes’ starting quarterback. HC Mario Cristobal and the team trust Beck to guide them to success after Miami’s strong showing last season.
However, not everyone shares this confidence. Some analysts, like Alex Donno, see things differently ahead of the upcoming season.
On a recent episode of “Locked On Canes,” he talked about how Beck’s transfer has changed the narrative. Once in the spotlight as a Heisman contender, Beck now seems to have vanished from the national conversation. He pointed out how Beck’s transfer has affected public opinion.
“Team getting hated on, that’s our fuel,” Donno said. “The team getting doubted makes us stronger. You know, Miami’s starting quarterback this year, Carson Beck, was the biggest thing in college football a year ago. He transfers to Miami, and people either act like he stinks now, or he’s terrible, act like he doesn’t exist.”
That frustration is real. A year ago, Beck’s stats were among the best in college football. He completed 72.4% of his passes, threw for 3,941 yards, scored 24 touchdowns, and had just six interceptions. Yet despite those numbers, his Heisman chances had dropped. Oddsmakers favored Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, pushing Beck down the list.
Dano also pointed out another interesting angle. He compared Beck to Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, who’s been getting more offseason buzz.
“Cade Klubnik, Clemson’s quarterback — he’s getting a lot more hype this offseason than Miami’s Carson Beck is. Part of that is Beck… He missed spring. I can definitely see Carson Beck being as good or better than Klubnik this year as long as the chemistry fits for him in Miami.”

Donno has a real point, and we can’t just ignore it. But the thing is, last year, Beck struggled despite emerging as a strong Heisman contender.
To bring that hype back, the Georgia transfer has to deliver a standout performance on the field. However, whether he can make that happen or not, the debate will never end until the season starts.
Beck and the ‘Canes will have big shoes to fill. Last year was the “U”‘s best year since 2017, culminating in a 10-win season and a Pop-Tarts Bowl appearance. They’ll kick off 2025 on August 31 against Notre Dame.
They’ll also have big tests against in-state rivals Florida and Florida State and an ACC slate including Louisville, SMU, Syracuse, and NC State.
