Former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Cam Newton believes it’s Cam Ward’s time to shine for the Tennessee Titans. What is it about Ward that Newton thinks gives him the inside track for the starting job?

Cam Newton Believes Confident Nature Sets Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward Up For Success
The Tennessee Titans hope to have found their franchise quarterback, having selected Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick of last weekend’s 2025 NFL Draft. The Carolina Panthers cleared up their quarterback situation during that event 14 years earlier when they took Cam Newton at the top of the order.
Newton discussed Ward’s mindset Thursday on his podcast, “4th&1 with Cam Newton.” He’s taken notice of the now-former Miami Hurricanes passer, who differentiated himself from the pack with a subdued confidence.
“Some of those clips kinda came out in a way where Cam Ward’s mental was at a state where it was like, ‘Yo, I’m extremely intentional of where I wanna go,'” Newton said. “Dating back to his pro day, right? To him looking at the Tennessee Titans to say, ‘I’m your guy.’ Right? He’s been a person that has gotten the graces of even Warren Moon to be able to wear the No. 1. That’s extremely big.
“You don’t just give numbers up to randoms. You don’t just give numbers up to pedestrians. You just don’t give numbers up to guys that aren’t ‘the guy.'”
Mason Rudolph and Will Levis split the Titans’ signal-caller duties last season. The latter was the team’s second-round choice in the 2023 NFL Draft, but his efforts with Tennessee were so unremarkable that Newton had to be reminded of his name.
“Will Levis, hey, bro, your time is up,” Newton said. “Why we even waiting? Even in that quarterback room, he can’t learn nothing from Will, you know what I’m saying? Will ain’t made no impact like that. If anything, Will is disgruntled. Sorry, it’s just the truth.”
Levis replaced former third-round pick Malik Willis as the promising young passer in the organization. Now, he faces the same sort of fate.
“The same way you were brought in is the same way you’re gonna be ushered out,” Newton said. “Hello, this is a business. … But it ain’t no reason for him not to step up to the opportunity and say, ‘Listen, I’m gonna make the most of my opportunity. You gotta fight. You can’t just throw in the white flag because this is (your) career we’re talking about.
