Quinn Ewers was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. As expected with his position and pedigree, Ewers has garnered a lot more attention than usual for a seventh-round draft pick, but it’s very easy to understand why. Ewers could be one of the better seventh-round draft picks in recent memory.
The Miami Dolphins picked up Ewers in the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite having their franchise quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa, it’s never bad to look towards the future, especially with the injury history we’ve seen Tagovailoa pick up already in his young career, including two concussions in a single season. This former NFL scout stands by his Ewers first-round grade, despite criticism.

NFL Scout Stands By Quinn Ewers’ 1st Round Grade Despite Critics
Daniel Kelly, a former NFL scout for the New York Jets, backed Ewers as a first-round 2025 NFL Draft pick. He did so by highlighting his top-tier potential despite some pushback and skepticism he’s garnered from fans.
“As a former NFL Scout, I maintained a 1st Round Grade on Ewers the two seasons leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft,” Kelly writes on X. “I also comped Brock Purdy to 2002 NFL MVP Rich Gannon pre-draft… And I said Purdy was better than Trey Lance before Purdy’s first training camp and during a time the rest of the football world was still wild for Lance.”
Ewers is a project-type pick for just about any NFL team. However, he fell all the way to the seventh round because many teams thought he was too “high profile of a backup.” Ewers at one point had the chance to be the next Matt Stafford, but sadly injuries and not the best play derailed that. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll have a bad NFL career.
Ewers in the NFL is too good not to work. His story is too compelling not to give him at least one honest shot. Miami is one of the few organizations where a path could be very clear for Ewers. Where you land matters, and while going to the Dolphins isn’t always the best thing, Ewers can change the narrative.

Despite his injury history, Ewers can still play high-caliber football at the next level. He was built for the NFL and, more importantly, for some NFL success. However, his road to glory may have changed a little bit. Ewers may be too high-profile to be a clipboard holder, and he will not do that for very long.
