Former LSU Tigers WR Malik Nabers made his opinion on Heisman candidate Travis Hunter crystal clear ahead of Saturday’s ceremony. When asked his thoughts on the Colorado two-way star’s ability to play both cornerback and wide receiver at the NFL level, Nabers was adamant about Hunter’s prowess.
Nabers had nothing but praise for Hunter and expressed confidence that Hunter would be able to carry his versatility into the NFL.
Former LSU WR Malik Nabers Vouches for Heisman Candidate Travis Hunter
Hunter is as good a football player as it gets. His ability to play both defense and offense is perhaps his most lauded quality, but it also happens to be his biggest point of criticism.
Numerous analysts have questioned Hunter’s ability to excel on both sides of the ball at the NFL level—a challenge many believe could make or break his career. When asked about the matter, New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers expressed confidence in Hunter’s skills, suggesting that his versatility would translate well to the NFL.
“He’s the best player in college football,” Nabers said. “If you can play both sides at a high level like him. I’m not gonna put no ceiling on anybody’s capabilities. I say he can 100% do it. I know there’s a lot of people saying that he can’t, but I feel like he can. I feel he’s gonna want to show people that he can do it, he’s gonna be able to do it.”

While Nabers wasn’t a two-way player in college, his skill as a wide receiver was nearly unmatched during his breakout year in 2023. Similarly, Hunter is arguably the best college football player, and a strong favorite for the Heisman.
Hunter took home multiple honors on CFN’s All-American and All-Big 12 lists just this days ahead of the Heisman ceremony.
Malik Nabers Drops Statement Acknowledging Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders
Nabers was a standout during his college football career, and though he has since moved on to the NFL, he still keeps an eye on emerging talent in the college ranks.
Nabers told reporters he continues to follow college football, but now as a “fan.” He is particularly interested in players who could potentially become his quarterback with the Giants.

He offered high praise for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
“I watched Shedeur when he was at Jackson State,” Nabers said. “We were in the same class so I’m always aware of my competition. He wasn’t in competition with me, but I was always aware of the fact that he was Deion Sanders’ son, so you always wanted to watch what those guys were doing.”
“They did it at a high level wherever they went. It’s amazing and impressive to see what he has done.”
