The Florida State Seminoles are continuing to build up their future roster as they recently went into Miami and earned a 2026 commitment from star high school linebacker Karon Maycock.

The Versatility of Karon Maycock
The Miami Central High School defender is one of the more dangerous and explosive high school players in the country. A former safety, the 6’1″, 200-pound Maycock can line up anywhere on the field and make a true impact.
As a junior in 2024, he recorded 67 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, three pass deflections, three sacks, and two forced fumbles for Miami Central.

As an undersized, yet talented backend player, Maycock will have the chance to provide the Seminoles with a great presence for years to come.
It is interesting to think about how the Miami Hurricanes were beaten out by their in-state rivals to land a great player in their own backyard. Players like Maycock are who will give the Florida State program a chance to contend for the College Football Playoff.
Florida State’s Outlook Before Maycock’s Arrival
Head coach Mike Norvell’s team nearly went undefeated in 2023 and just barely missed the College Football Playoff. In 2024, they completely fell off the map as they won just two games in what was supposed to be a big year.
Heading into the 2025 season, this team was able to acquire a couple of key transfers.
Former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos and former USC wide receiver Duce Robinson both made the move to Tallahassee this offseason and are hungry to contend for both an ACC title and a national title.
But the pressure will likely be turned up on the storied program after it failed to deliver on those expectations last season.

Also, if the team fails to show that they can become true contenders this year, that could put the Florida State future of players such as Maycock in jeopardy.
The Seminoles will open up the 2025 season in a very big way on Aug. 30 against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
All eyes will be on Norvell and Co. to see how they respond coming out of the gate after that tumultuous 2024 season.
