Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is having the best season of his college coaching career. After years of failing to get the Rebels over the hump, Kiffin has his team on the precipice of a College Football Playoff appearance. There is even still a chance that the Rebels could play in the SEC Championship Game.
While Kiffin’s success has been good for the Rebels, it also has meant that other teams have started to inquire about his services. Notably, the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers are two teams that have been in rumors regarding their interest in the Ole Miss head coach.
With the threat that Kiffin could be poached by one of its rivals after the season, the Rebels are making moves to secure their head coach long-term. On Friday, insider Pete Nakos reported that Kiffin and the Rebels are set to meet on Friday. Presumably, they will discuss the possibility of a contract extension.

In 2023, Kiffin signed a six-year extension worth $54 million. However, if Ole Miss gets seven wins in a season, there is the option to add another year worth $9 million. This has happened three times since he signed the contract, meaning his contract now runs through the 2031 season.

What Would a Contract Extension for Lane Kiffin Look Like?
With Lane Kiffin under contract, the Ole Miss Rebels do not technically need to sign him to an extension. However, doing so will make it less likely for Kiffin to accept a buyout from another team. According to reports that have come out this week, Kiffin could receive a contract offer of over $13 million annually. If that were to occur, Kiffin would become one of the highest-paid coaches in college football.
While Kiffin prepares to receive a contract extension, he will get his team ready for the end of the regular season. The Rebels have a bye this week and only have one game left before postseason play. They will conclude their season against Mississippi State on Friday, Nov. 28.
