‘I Would Do It Again’ — Florida’s George Gumbs Jr. Doesn’t Regret Flag Plant at FSU

Flag-planting has become increasingly common in college football in recent years, and the pattern continued this season.

Florida edge-rusher George Gumbs Jr. took it upon himself to plant Florida’s flag in the Florida State logo after the Gators beat the Seminoles this season 31-11.

George Gumbs Jr. Doesn’t Regret the Move

Especially in an in-state rivalry game, the chances of a player planting a flag in the opposing team’s logo could be very likely.

Gumbs Jr. made the decision to do exactly that after his team’s dominant win last season.

After spring practice on Tuesday, March 11, Gumb said has no regrets about his choice: “I would do it again.”

Judging by his response, it seems like the rivalry between the Gators and Seminoles is alive and well.

The question is whether or not something like this could take place once again next season when these teams face each other in Gainesville.

    Both Teams Looking To Improve

While head coach Billy Napier and his Gators ended the season on a strong note and finished with a record of 8-5 (4-4 in conference), they still have not won more than eight games in a season since Napier took over.

Florida has not been a strong contender in the SEC since Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow were there. It is time for them to get back to being a championship team.

For Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles, after going 13-1 in 2023, the team had a very disappointing 2024. They went just 2-10 (1-7 in conference).

It was a truly stunning season in Tallahassee, and the blowout loss to their in-state rivals, coupled with the flag plant, didn’t help things much. So, both teams now know what they have to do to get back to the level that they want.

Time will tell how both coaches will approach the 2025 season after what was an underperforming year for both programs.

Rest assured that both of these teams will have each other on their minds as they gear up for a hopeful bounce-back season in their eyes.
