Florida Gators Hire Deron Wilson as Cornerbacks Coach

Wilson’s hiring has sparked some strong reactions from Florida fans. While some believe he will help strengthen the Gators’ cornerback play, others are more critical, pointing to the decline in Arkansas’ pass defense as a concern.

There is uncertainty about whether Wilson can maintain Florida’s defensive standards, but some are optimistic about his ability to improve the secondary. Fans had some polarized opinions about the news.

“This was literally every UF fans greatest fear. Billy making this lazy, less-than hire,” one fan commented.

“Florida fans will call this a generational hire, ” another comment said.

“Congratulations to Florida and Deron Wilson,” someone else said.

“Typical “keep it in the family” move. Can only hope 2025 will be the last year of this nonsense, ” another comment reads

“Can he recruit? That is priority #1, ” someone made a query saying.

“He was already on the staff once in 2022 just a quick recycle, ” another comment reads

“Oh ya, “ someone else said.

“Good hire 8/10, ” another comment came.

    Staffing Complete for 2025 Season

Before his time at Georgia State, Wilson was with Arkansas for the 2023 and 2024 seasons as their cornerbacks coach. In 2023, he helped Arkansas achieve a strong pass defense, ranking fourth in the SEC with 202.8 yards allowed per game, good for 32nd nationally.

The Razorbacks also recorded 12 interceptions that year, ranking third in the SEC. However, Arkansas’ pass defense took a hit in 2024, allowing 246.9 yards per game and ranking 110th in the country.
