What’s Really Going On With Florida Football’s 2026 Class? Insider Explains Surprising Truth Behind Lack of Commitments

Florida football fans entered the 2026 recruiting cycle with high expectations. After a strong finish in 2025, many assumed Billy Napier’s staff would carry that momentum forward. However, months into the cycle, the Gators have just one commitment so far. Naturally, fans are wondering what’s causing this unexpected recruiting slowdown.

Missed opportunities, players changing their minds, tough competition, and the impact of NIL deals have all played a role in Florida’s recruiting struggles. Insiders are also sounding off on the reasons behind the slow start. But there’s still a chance to flip the script. With some of the nation’s top talent set to visit Gainesville, will they finally turn things around?

Florida Gators Have Just 1 2026 Commit—Insiders Reveal Why

In a recent discussion on the ON3 Recruits YouTube channel, host Josh Newberg and CFB insider Corey Bender talked about some big names who are set to visit UF’s camp soon. With only one commitment so far, their conversation focused on who might join the Gators’ 2026 recruiting class. They also talked about why Florida’s recruiting has started slower than expected.

Insider Corey Bender admitted the slow pace surprised him. He said, “Yeah, no, it’s surprising. I mean, it’s definitely… Florida should probably recruit itself.” He noted that while Florida’s academic prestige and football success should be enough to attract top talent, the cycle has been off to a slower start than expected.

At one point, the Gators had five commits. But things changed quickly. Jalen Waters flipped to Miami after coaching staff changes, and Devin Jackson decommitted—though Bender believes there’s still a chance he will return. However, what is the plan for top prospect Isaiah Williams?

Bender explained, “Isaiah Williams, I mean, we can have a whole show on that whole situation.” His recruitment has been a rollercoaster, leaving Florida struggling to maintain control over key prospects.

All eyes are now focused on the upcoming visits from several prominent players. The University of Florida hopes to make a strong impression on key offensive and defensive recruits as they visit campus in the coming weeks.

Among the biggest visitors is five-star offensive lineman Felix Ojo, who is returning to Gainesville after a great spring visit. Florida needs to “knock it out of the park” to win him over from Texas and Ohio State. Another lineman, Ekene Ogboko, also plans to visit. Although Georgia leads its recruitment, Clemson and Notre Dame remain in the race.

On defense, Luke Wafel, Chauncey Kenan, and Jamir Perez will visit. Wafel impressed during spring but is currently leaning toward Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas. Kenan has built a strong bond with Florida’s secondary coach, Deron Wilson, but is also considering Auburn, Florida State, and Miami.

If Florida can land just a few of these top-tier recruits, it would be a huge step forward for their 2026 class. However, Bender noted that Florida’s NIL strategy, competition from powerhouse programs, and the timing of visits are key factors in this recruiting battle.

Despite these challenges, the insider anticipates that the program will accelerate as summer draws near. He said that while the process has been slow, the Gators “are trending for a lot of big-name kids,” suggesting that once official visits ramp up in June, Florida’s commitment list could expand significantly.
