QB Will Rogers is in the transfer portal for a second time this season. He had originally committed to Washington, but with the announcement of Huskies HC Kalen DeBoer becoming the next head coach at Alabama, Rogers has decided his future is elsewhere.
With teams already picking up QBs in the transfer portal, what spots are still available for Rogers?
Top 5 Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Will Rogers
Max Olson from The Athletic reported that Rogers “has re-entered the portal as a grad transfer” on January 12, meaning he is free to talk to other programs about a potential move.
However, it is late in the cycle for Rogers to have his pick of the bunch. Many teams who were looking for a QB in the transfer portal have already grabbed one, meaning there are fewer teams in the market for Rogers to pick from.
These five teams are potential suitors for Rogers as he reenters the portal.
Alabama Crimson Tide
If DeBoer was the reason that Rogers transferred to Washington in the first place, then it is possible that he looks to follow him.

The stumbling block is Jalen Milroe, who after having a rocky start in 2023, developed well in the back half of the season. Milroe threw for 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2023 and has opted to return to college rather than explore the NFL Draft.
However, when new head coaches come in, often they bring ‘their guy’ with them, which is a possibility in Alabama. Rogers is currently ranked second in SEC history in passing yards and could move up to No. 1 if he were to become the starter in Alabama.
Washington Huskies
Just because Rogers has entered the portal, it doesn’t mean he is committed to a move. Entering the portal allows him to speak with other teams, but he can stick with Washington if he chooses.
Clearly, Rogers was attached to DeBoer, and with the head coach no longer around, he wanted to explore his options. If the next HC with the Huskies already has their favored QB, there is every chance that he brings his guy with him.
However, if there is an inside hire in Washington, and OC Ryan Grubb is being touted as a potential replacement for DeBoer, then Rogers could still opt to stay.
Miami Hurricanes
Miami has been all over the place searching for a QB in the transfer portal. They were linked with Cam Ward, who eventually declared for the NFL Draft, and DJ Uiagalelei, who committed to Florida State.
It led the Hurricanes to former Albany QB Reese Poffenbarger, who was a star at the FCS level in 2023. For however much Miami likes Poffenbarger, we know he wasn’t their first pick to be their QB in 2024. Could the experience of Rogers be the fit that the ‘Canes were looking for all along?
Mississippi State Bulldogs
After all the bother of entering the transfer portal twice, Rogers could land in the same spot as he started: back at Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs have brought in Jeff Lebby as head coach this offseason, and he has worked hard to reshape the roster since Rogers entered the portal in November.
At the QB position, they have a commitment from Baylor transfer Blake Shapen, who is expected to be their starter, while also signing four-star high school recruit Michael Van Buren. Could one last hurrah for Rogers in Starkville?
Washington State Cougars
There is little loyalty in sports these days, and the Washington State Cougars are down at the QB position after losing Cam Ward to the transfer portal before he opted to declare for the NFL Draft.
Washington State does have the commitment of three-star Evans Chuba but there is a lack of experience in the room. Adding Rogers for a year before transitioning to Chuba could be a wise move.
