Recruiting battles are in full swing for the 2026 class, with schools hosting some of the top talent in the country throughout the summer. Hosting a prospect on campus for an “official visit” allows schools to showcase firsthand everything they have to offer.
Most of the time in college football recruiting, “OV” weekends are where programs get to seal the deal and gain verbal commitments from future players. Unfortunately for the Oklahoma Sooners, they just lost their chance to do so with top offensive tackle prospect Felix Ojo.
Felix Oji Says Oklahoma Official Visit Was ‘Not Needed’ After Canceling Trip
In a report from Hayes Fawcett, a recruiting insider for On3, five-star 2026 offensive tackle Felix Ojo has canceled his official visit to Oklahoma. He said the visit was “not needed” and that he’d be “nearing my decision a lot sooner rather than later.”

Ojo is On3’s third-best offensive tackle prospect in the class of 2026, and their sixth-best player nationally. The Texas native has over 50 offers from Division I programs and originally planned to visit Oklahoma on June 20.
The bad news for the Sooners is that they were scheduled to be his final official visit of the spring, as Ojo has already been to Colorado, Ole Miss, Florida, Ohio State, and Michigan, and will travel to Texas on June 13.
It would appear that he’s narrowed down his decision enough to no longer consider Oklahoma a potential landing spot.
This is a huge blow for head coach Brent Venables and Oklahoma, which have already fallen behind other elite Power Four programs in the 2026 cycle. The program currently has the 37th-ranked class in the country.
A commitment out of Ojo would’ve given the Sooners their first five-star in their class, but instead, it’s back to the drawing board for Oklahoma, who have yet to land a top-200 player in the country.

Since Oklahoma’s arrival in the SEC, both its on-field play and recruiting have slowly but surely seen a decline. Oklahoma finished the 2025 cycle with a class outside of the top 15 for the first time since 2016. Now, in 2026, it’s looking to trend the same way.
Oklahoma was never the favorite to land Ojo, but the five-star publicly announcing that the visit isn’t needed represents a growing trend of the Sooners losing their status as one of the top programs in the country, and a place where top talent wants to come.
Venables needs to right the ship, and he needs to do it fast, or we could see Oklahoma make a coaching change sooner rather than later.
