The Kansas State Wildcats vs. Iowa State Cyclones rivalry, dubbed “Farmageddon,” is one of college football’s most enduring traditions. It began in 1917, when both teams were members of the Missouri Valley Conference, and has evolved into a showcase of the agricultural roots of the land-grant universities.

Kansas State vs. Iowa State: What Is Farmageddon?
Spanning 110 consecutive meetings, Farmageddon is tied for the longest uninterrupted rivalry in college football history. However, due to the Big 12’s scheduling matrix, that streak will end in 2027.
The rivalry has been marked by extended winning streaks, with both schools enjoying 10-game stretches of dominance. Iowa State currently leads the all-time series 53–50–4, but Kansas State has controlled recent history, going 26–8 since 1989.
While it wasn’t always seen as a marquee matchup, Big 12 realignment in the late 2000s spurred the schools to spotlight the game, culminating in its rebranding as Farmageddon.
The term “Farmageddon” was first coined for neutral-site games played at Arrowhead Stadium in 2009 and 2010.
A nod to the universities’ agricultural heritage, the moniker stuck. In a historic twist, the rivalry will go international in 2025, when the Wildcats and Cyclones meet at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland — the first neutral-site Farmageddon since 2010.
This year, the stakes are higher than ever. Iowa State, undefeated in night games this season and 9-2 on the year, could secure a spot in the Big 12 Championship and improve its odds of making the expanded College Football Playoff with a win.
Kansas State, still mathematically alive in the race at 8-3, needs a win and plenty of help to keep its title hopes alive.
