The Alabama Crimson Tide learned heartbreaking news on Saturday evening when senior running back Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury in the team’s preseason scrimmage. Head coach Kalen DeBoer stated that Miller had a medical procedure just after the injury and is expected to fully recover, but there is no indication on his return.

Social media was plagued with fan responses after the announcement. Supporters were quick to voice their concern over the team’s championship goals, with one fan stating: “There goes Alabama’s season”
“See. And I remember how much our fans were hyping up the pic of him looking “bigger” this season. Adding extra muscle not always the best bc look. Hurt himself already. Smh”, commented a fan.
“And so it begins….”, said another fan.
“Damn man wishing for a quick recovery”, wished a fan
“That’s terrible. Get well soon”, empathized a fan with the injury.
“Big blow for the Crimson Tide”, remarked a fan.
“That sucks Especially with losing Haynes to the cheaters Heal up kid”, stated another fan.
“As an athletic trainer, here’s my interpretation: Procedure means surgery. Which means there was an unstable dislocation or fracture. Hoping for something simple like a collarbone which is 4-6 weeks. Could be something complex like a thumb/wrist which ends his season”, a fan interpreted the injury with detail.
Miller’s injury leaves a large hole in the offensive plans overall for Alabama. Last year, the senior back led the team with 668 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, and fueled the ground attack. With that production and half of leadership, Miller became a crucial piece of the offensive system DeBoer inherited.

Richard Young and Daniel Hill Must Step Up as Alabama Faces Early Adversity
With Miller out for an undisclosed amount of time, Alabama’s rushing attack will depend on Richard Young, Daniel Hill, and Dre Washington moving forward. All three of those players lack Miller’s level of game experience or production at the SEC level.
Young, last season, showed glimpses of potential during limited opportunities last season, but he has not been thrown into a full workload yet. Hill brings speed and athleticism to the position, but he lacks what Miller provided between the tackles. Washington is an unproven player entering a larger role.
The margin of error for Alabama this season is small. To see how the season will go for DeBoer, it all depends on how Alabama responds to the early struggles it has faced.
