“Try LinkedIn”: Fans Troll Thomas Castellanos As FSU QB’s College Football Dreams End With Extra Year Waiver Denial

Florida State Seminoles quarterback Thomas Castellanos might have already played his final college football game, given the NCAA denied his waiver request for a fifth year of eligibility.

The quarterback played four regular-season games in 2022 for the UCF Knights and also took part in the 2022 conference championship game, thereby burning his “redshirt” eligibility under the rules at that time. Just after that season, the NCAA changed the rule and said that playing in the postseason games wouldn’t count against “redshirt” status if the player has already played four regular-season games.

As such, after the denial, Castellanos is reportedly preparing to file a lawsuit against the NCAA if required to fight for an extra year of service.

Thomas Castellanos’s 2025 Season and Appeal

Thomas Castellanos led the Seminoles to a 5-7 record in 2025. He completed 2,760 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Moreover, he also rushed for 557 yards and scored nine rushing touchdowns. In the process, he set a single-season school record for rushing TDs by a QB.

As far as his appeal to the NCAA is concerned, Castellanos’ camp said that since the NCAA changed the rule just after one season, the quarterback deserves to get an exemption. If the appeal fails, then 2025 may have been his final college football season.

It remains to be seen if the NCAA changes its decision or will Castellanos goes one step further and files a lawsuit.
