Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi is facing heat from fans following his controversial remarks backfiring as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish takes an early lead in Saturday’s ongoing game.
Before the showdown against Notre Dame, Narduzzi sparked controversy by rejecting the narrative that the ongoing game was a “must-win.” He said:
“Absolutely not, you know, it is not an ACC game, you know, I’d gladly get beat 103 or 110 to 10, in that game they could put 110 up on us, as long as we win the next two after that.”
With Notre Dame leading the game 14-3 with two minutes remaining until halftime, fans have started to call out Narduzzi for his controversial pre-game remarks.
“Pat Narduzzi’s team took that ‘Lose by 100’ to heart,” one fan wrote.
“In fairness, Pat Narduzzi said he didn’t care if #Pitt lost by 100 against Notre Dame. His players appear to want to see if he was lying,” another fan added.
“Pat Narduzzi next for betting Notre Dame -31.5,” one fan joked, citing the ongoing investigation into the College Betting scandal, which has seen 14 arrests being made already.
“Let’s hope Pitt wasn’t being serious when Pat Narduzzi said he’d rather lose by 100 (or so) to Notre Dame if they could win the other games and make the ACC Championship,” one fan reacted.
“Looks like that clown was dead serious,” one fan wrote.
“Pat Narduzzi’s ‘they could put 100 on us’ giving Dave Doeren’s ‘I hated coaching that team” a run for the most insane quote I’ve ever heard from a coach. And both happened this month,” one fan said.

Reason Behind Pat Narduzzi’s Controversial Statement
The game against Notre Dame is non-essential in terms of their ACC standings, as it is a non-conference game.
At the moment, the Panthers are tied for first in the ACC with a 5-1 record alongside Georgia Tech, Virginia and SMU.
The next two encounters following the Notre Dame game are of utmost importance for Pittsburgh. They face No. 16 Georgia Tech on the road before closing their regular season schedule against the No. 15 Miami Hurricanes.
