The Fiesta Bowl between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Oregon Ducks, perhaps the closest game on paper for the quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff, ended up being a breeze for the Eugene program.
Known as the country’s best offense, it wasn’t the Red Raiders who managed to shut out their opponents on New Year’s Day. The Ducks shut out Texas Tech, with the game ending 23-0. It’s a testament to their defense that the Red Raiders checked one of the best offenses in the nation to just 23 points. What defied belief is that Oregon completely restricted an even better-ranked Texas Tech offense.

Fans were fuming on social media.
“Entire offense should be embarrassed,” wrote one fan.
“Texas Tech looked like they didn’t belong. That was an embarrassing performance by a top 4 seed. Let’s hope we don’t see them in the CFP in a while. Texas and Notre Dame would have had a better showing,” explained another person.
“How tf do you average 42.5 points per game in the BIG 12 and put up a goose egg in the CFP, absolute frauds,” said one frustrated fan.
A few Texas Tech fans did express their admiration for their team.
“What a season this is just the beginning for Texas Tech football. the world saw the best defense in the country today. Proud to be a Red Raider ❤️🖤,” wrote one Red Raider.
“Before you guys send hate at Behren Morton, remember you aren’t just attacking a player, but a father, husband, and a Christian. One bad game shouldn’t take away from what he’s brought to this program, and we should look forward to watching him lead our Red Raiders,” said one Behren Morton fan.
Maybe time to end the conference champion entry route?
“@NDFootball scored as many points as TTU did…from the couch. Maybe @JoeyMcGuireTTU should worry more about his team next season than which school is in a conference. Yormark too,” said one fan, criticizing the current system.

HC Joey McGuire’s Message for Texas Tech Fans
What was supposed to be a high-scoring encounter between two of the best offenses in the nation ended up being a mere procedure for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks. In the game’s aftermath, it was clear that coach Joey McGuire understood what a lost opportunity the game was. His first words were an apology to the Red Raiders.
“Texas Tech fans, I’m sorry that we let you down,” coach Joey McGuire said. “I hope you’ve enjoyed every second of this year. Man, this was such a special team and I’m so proud of them. Hats off to Dan Lanning. Hats off to the Oregon Ducks. Just an incredible football team … and I told Dan after the game I hope he wins the whole damn thing.”
The Ducks face a difficult task ahead, as they’re set to clash with the Indiana Hoosiers in the Peach Bowl semifinal. Indiana had an even easier time beating Alabama, 38-3, making it clear that the Hoosiers are the top dog of college football at the moment.
Ducks and Hoosiers have already seen each other early in the year, when Indiana came out on top 30-20 on its way to a perfect regular season.
