Calls Mount From Fans To Fire Ryan Day As Miami Stuns Ohio State In Massive CFP Upset

Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day is facing calls to be dismissed from his role, given his team’s recent loss and disappointing end to their 2025 season. On Wednesday, Dec. 31, Day and his 2025 Buckeyes team matched up against coach Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes for the college football playoffs quarterfinal at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Unfortunately for coach Day and the rest of the Buckeyes faithful, they were unable to complete their pursuit of the 2026 college football national championship as they lost to the Hurricanes 24-14, which many are considering an upset. The Hurricanes also led the Buckeyes by 14 points at halftime, as Ohio State had not scored at that point.

Fans online are calling for Day to be sacked, given his recent subpar performances.

“WE HAVE TO FIRE RYAN DAY,” one fan exclaimed.

“Fire Ryan Day Twitter is the best because it will never ever go away,” another fan said.

“Ryan Day needs to go. Never should have gotten the HC position in the first place,” another user shared.

“If Ryan Day doesn’t hire an elite OC, fire Day effective immediately,” a user claimed.

Other X users, especially the Buckeyes faithful, flooded posts with their criticism of Day’s coaching style and skill set.

“Ryan Day taking play-calling duties away from Brain Hartline while he’s still on the sidelines is gonna be one of the all-time dumbest coaching decisions in the history of college football,” one fan pointed out.

“Another New Year’s ruined by an ill-prepared Ryan Day football team. Terrible preparation. Terrible coaching. Terrible play in all 3 phases. #BuckeyeNation,” another fan wrote.

“I love Ryan Day but he’s one stubborn man, sometimes you got to have hurt feelings to win games. It sucks but it’s life man. Fielding should not have been out there tonight. Costs us 2 championships back-to-back games,” a fan posted.

The Buckeyes’ loss to the Hurricanes followed the team’s huge defeat at the hands of coach Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers during the Big Ten conference championship game. Ohio State lost that matchup by just three points, 13-10, on Dec. 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Hoosiers’ home pitch. The Buckeyes finish the year with an overall record of 12-2 (9-0 Big Ten).

The Ohio State Buckeyes were looking to win back-to-back national championships this season.

In last year’s campaign, the Buckeyes realized their dream and won the national title by beating coach Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish by 11 points, 34-23.
