ESPN analyst Shannon Sharpe is facing a growing controversy, and the NFL legend is now being mocked for it by fans on social media.

Shannon Sharpe Mocked for ‘Scripted’ Statement as ESPN Controversy Grows
After recently being accused of sexual assault, Sharpe released a statement regarding the situation:
“I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties…I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding and dealing with these false and DISRUPTIVE allegations.”

Now, fans are responding negatively to Sharpe’s words on social media.
“Shannon when your lawyer texted you that he probably didn’t mean post a screenshot. I’m guessing he wanted you to copy and paste it,” one fan said.
“Your lawyer sent you this text, told you to screenshot it and post it 😂😂,” another chimed in.
The fans are calling Sharpe out because all he did was screenshot the text that presumably his lawyer sent to him.
It shows that he himself didn’t take the time to sit down and thoughtfully write out what he wanted to say to the public.
Simply put, all of this is painting him in a bad light.
Why Shannon Sharpe Could Be Gone From ESPN
Sharpe has had a history of making mistakes since his playing days. Whether it was with colleagues at CBS or Fox Sports, he hasn’t been able to stick anywhere for a long, long time.
After his time ended abruptly at Fox Sports due to a feud with personality Skip Bayless, he was given an opportunity to be a contributor on ESPN’s First Take. But this latest off-camera allegation is not at all doing the Pro Football Hall of Famer any favors.
It is media members like Sharpe, who also tend to take shots at athletes and coaches from time to time, who can sometimes find a way to cost their network viewers.

Whether or not the allegations surrounding him are true, people likely are not going to want to watch a show that he is a part of because his name keeps coming up in negative stories.
Time will tell if ESPN is ready to cut ties with the Denver Broncos legend, even if he believes he will be back in time for the start of the NFL season in the fall. All in all, it is a very serious situation.
