Fans were ecstatic to find out he was committing to the Ducks:
“honestly, good for oregon. congrats on the big commit” Wrote one fan
“Good school … good program … much luck to them this year” Said another
“Glad to see it. Oregon is the team I’m pulling for in the Big 10 from now on.” Declared one person
“This is huge for the ducks” Celebrated one fan
However, not everyone was ready to claim victory yet:
“Who cares he’s gonna de commit and recommit multiple times based on who offers the most money anyways” Said a Tennessee fan clearly pointing out Oregon’s recent recruitment woes
Others poked fun at USC for missing on Washington:
“I thought he was a usc lock 😂” Said someone jokingly
Washington is the top 50 prospect on On3’s list of prospects in the class of 2026. With his commitment, Oregon has jumped upward in the outlet’s recruiting power rankings. Now the Ducks are taking what was Washington’s No. 7 spot. Ahead of them is Notre Dame at No. 6, Georgia Bulldogs at No. 5, Texas A&M at No. 4, Ohio State at No. 3, LSU at No. 2, and USC at No. 1.
Oregon’s Dan Lanning praised for his approach to recruiting
Fellow Oregon head coach Mark Wasikowski has praised Dan Lanning for his approach to the recruiting side of things. Wasikowski has been in charge of Oregon’s baseball program since 2020.
Wasikowski has especially highlighted how genuine Lanning’s interactions are with potential recruits.
“He plays tic-tac-toe in his office with recruits. Like he’s real,” Wasikowski recently told Sports Illustrated “There was a recruiting call one time – he’s with a couple of his college buddies on a lake in the Ozarks on a boat. And he didn’t even have a shirt on and he’s taking a recruiting call. He picks up the phone… He answers a FaceTime at all hours of the day or night”
The head of the Ducks baseball program also highlighted Dan Lanning’s openness to collaborate with him. According to the coach, no previous Oregon football coach has attempted to maintain such a strong relationship with the baseball program. Wasikowski was an assistant coach with the Ducks between 2012 and 2016.
