‘About To Leave Them High N Dry’: CFB Fans React As Deion Sanders’ Colorado Faces Massive Recruitment Struggle

Deion Sanders was praised for turning Colorado around after taking over the program. However, after two of his biggest stars left, questions arose whether he could still capture that previous magic and lead the Buffaloes to victory. This has led many to believe that Colorado is in for trouble next season, with the program facing plenty of problems.

A report from 247Sports stated that Colorado only has five commits from the Class of 2026 so far, ranking the team 101st in the site’s Best Recruiting Class rankings. This also makes the Buffaloes the worst class out of all the Power 5 programs so far, as Sanders continues to struggle in recruitment.

This has gotten a lot of fans talking, some even theorizing that Sanders is about to leave the program soon, especially as his son, Shedeur, is now in the NFL.

“He’s about to leave them high n dry lol watch,” said one fan.

“Prime time is over.” another commenter added.

“I guess he is being honest with recruits about his plans to return to the NFL,” one person opined.

However, there were still many people defending Deion Sanders and how he is handling the Buffaloes, with many saying that he is relying on the transfer portal.

“I believe people are waiting to commit because they want to make sure Prime will still be there. With his current health scare situation and the rumors of him leaving to go coach in the nfl athletes are cautioned to commit so early. That is all,” one fan theorized.

“They build through the transfer portal, not high school kids,” another person noted.

One person noted that high school recruitment is still a viable option, but Sanders is just not doing it as much.

“Before you say “high school recruiting doesn’t matter anymore “ “the transfer portal is all he needs “ In the 2026 Ohio st has 21 commits Georgia has 27 Norte dame has 24 … High school is still a priority and has to be if you want to win a national championship.” one person pointed out.

Who Are Deion Sanders’ 2026 Colorado Recruits So Far?

During the latest 247Sports Big 12 Recruitment Rankings, last updated on July 7, Colorado remains in dead last with one four-star and four three-star recruits, with many questioning if Sanders’ recruitment magic is already gone.

Preston Ashley, a four-star safety from Brandon High School in Missouri is his highest-ranked commitment so far, being the No, 24 safety and the No. 12 player in the state. All his other recruits are three-stars, including Gavin Mueller, Colby Johnson, Domata Peko Jr., and Maurice Williams. This low yield has shown how much Colorado has fallen behind in recruitment against other teams in its conference.
