Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. His selection came after he had one of the most shocking falls in recent draft history.
Originally projected to be a first-round pick, Sanders fell to Day 3 of the draft. He is now in one of the most chaotic QB rooms in the NFL in Cleveland.
On Friday, analyst Josh Aul spoke about Sanders’ situation in Cleveland, and explained that Sanders is not a priority for the Browns, given their four-quarterback rotation. He further went on to add that he doesn’t see a very bright future for Sanders in Cleveland.
The Browns QB competition is a 3-man battle…and it does not include Shedeur Sanders.
“We need to understand that Shedeur Sanders is not a priority for the Browns right now in training camp. There aren’t enough players, there isn’t enough time to run a four-quarterback… pic.twitter.com/bC8TgO6mII

This prompted a strong reaction from fans on X.
“Sanders was brought on out of pity. If anyone gets cut, it would be Sanders,” one fan wrote.
“The browns are pathetic for this..” one fan commented.
“Just trade him already sick of your poverty loser franchise,” one fan added.
Fans continued to react on X.
“Sadly you are right,” one fan wrote.
“Nothing he can do about it. He just has to produce in preseason. They lied about the competition,” one fan commented.
“I give it three games before the fanbase starts calling for him to start,” one fan added.

Shedeur Sanders Is Competing with 3 Other Quarterbacks for Playing Time in Cleveland
The biggest issue, according to analyst Josh Aul, isn’t that Shedeur Sanders lacks the talent to play. Rather, it’s the fact that the Browns have too many QBs. They brought in two veteran QBs in Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in the offseason. On top of that, they also drafted two QBs – Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
Flacco and Pickett both have NFL experience and will be favored to get the starting job at the start of the season. When looking at the two rookies, the Browns drafted Gabriel in the third round, two rounds before they picked up Sanders. As a result, they are unlikely to prioritize Sanders over Gabriel. All this indicates that Sanders will need to make a serious statement in order to capture the starting role this season.
