Fans Call for Michigan to Be Deranked as Sherrone Moore’s Squad Survives AP Poll Top 25 Drop Despite Oklahoma Upset

The Michigan Wolverines did themselves a disservice after losing to Oklahoma in Week 2. The home team won the game 24-13 against Sherrone Moore’s team. Many thought this would take Michigan out of the next top 25 AP poll.

However, when the AP Poll was released on Monday, Michigan surprisingly remained in the rankings. The Wolverines acquired the 23rd spot, one spot ahead of the Auburn Tigers. Meanwhile, Oklahoma climbed to the 13th spot in the rankings.

After the rankings were released, fans took it out on Michigan, saying the program doesn’t deserve to be ranked inside the top 25 college football teams following their loss against Oklahoma.

“Get Michigan out off there,” one fan wrote.

“Why would anyone have Michigan ranked? Looked awful,, and their only win was a bad win vs.vs. one of the worst teams in FBS,” another fan wrote.

Some fans believe the AP voters are clinging to brand power over on-field performance. The frustration wasn’t limited to Michigan alone, as one fan wrote:

“Drop Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan 5 spots each, and we’ll be a little closer to reality.”

“Just get rid of the AP and Coaches Poll,” one fan commented. “It’s honestly clear that voters aren’t watching games, doing brand service, and just don’t care. I mean, ASU is in the Coaches Poll. WTF is Michigan doing in the AP Poll? Why is ISU 3-0 but so low? Just dumb stuff. Get rid of it all.”

One fan had a harsh prediction for Michigan:

“I think it’s very possible Michigan goes 5-7 or worse.”

“I don’t quite understand the ranking. The AP is a broken system. Texas is 1-1 and has not looked good. Michigan is 1-1 and has not looked good. Both Texas Tech and Utah have STEAMROLLED teams. Clemson was losing 16-3 against Troy at half Saturday. Notre Dame is 0-1 and looked really bad for 3 quarters in week 1. The AP is a flawed system,” another fan added.

Michigan Drops Eight Spots In AP Poll After Week 2

Michigan defeated New Mexico in the season opener. They were ranked No. 15, and had they won their Week 2 game against Oklahoma, they could have entered the top 10 field. But instead, they were upset by Oklahoma, and expectedly, their AP Poll rankings took a hit. They slide down eight spots to take the No. 23 spot.

Here’s the AP Poll rankings after Week 2:

    1: Ohio State (55 first-place votes), 2-0
    2: Penn State (7), 2-0
    3: LSU (3), 2-0
    4: Oregon, 2-0 (up from 6)
    5: Miami, 2-0 (held from 5)
    6: Georgia, 2-0 (slid from 4)
    7: Texas, 1-1 (held from 7)
    8: Notre Dame, 0-1 (up from 9)
    9: Illinois, 2-0 (rose from 11)
    10: Florida State, 2-0 (entered at 14)
    11: South Carolina, 2-0 (fell from 10)
    12: Clemson, 1-1 (fell from 8)
    13: Oklahoma, 2-0 (rallied in from 18)
14: Iowa State, 3-0 (moved up from 16)
    15: Tennessee, 2-0 (jumped from 22)
    16: Texas A&M, 2-0 (up from 19)
    17: Ole Miss, 2-0 (rose from 20)
18: South Florida (USF), 2-0 (entered as NR)
    19: Alabama, 1-1 (dropped from 21)
    20: Utah, 2-0 (entered at 25)
    21: Texas Tech, 2-0 (entered at 24)
    22: Indiana, 2-0 (steady from 23)
    23: Michigan, 1-1 (fell from 15)
    24: Auburn, 2-0 (new entry)
    25: Missouri, 2-0 (new entry)

Michigan will next face Central Michigan at home. A win here won’t improve their rankings, but a loss could take them out of the Top 25 AP Poll rankings.
