“College Football Is Dead”: Fans Lash Out On Lane Kiffin Claims Florida, LSU Saga Doesn’t Affect Ole Miss Squad

Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin is surrounded by intense speculation tying him to the vacant coaching roles at LSU and Florida, who fired their respective head coaches midway through the season.

The Rebels’ head coach recently addressed those rumors and said the Ole Miss locker room isn’t affected by what happens on the outside. He indirectly said how the NIL has taken over and that the players are more about financials than a program or about the head coach.

“It’s a different generation, guys,” Kiffin said. “It’s different than we were in as players couldn’t leave and players chose to go play for their home state a lot. They all can leave every year. A lot of that is financially based. And so, they don’t think the traditional way that years ago about their coach and what can go on with him next year.

“That’s not how they think anymore. So, that makes it a lot easier to not listen to the noise. Because, as a fan, that noise is really loud because it’s your team, it’s your team for a long time. These kids don’t think that way. It’s a product of the system.”

Kiffin’s remarks were a harsh reality check for college football fans. One fan wrote:

“If this is true, college football is dead. One of the great things about it was that it was pure. Who the hell wants the NFL 2.0?”

“Players used to dream about playing for their favorite school. Now they dream about how much NIL am I getting. The kids are now pro’s. Who cares what they think about the coach?” another fan added.

“That is a sad answer and indicated why college football is broken. If I wanted to watch the NFL, I’d watch the NFL. I miss the days when players played for an Alma Mater and pride in their school and its brand,” one fan commented.

“You gotta escort Lane off campus immediately. He’s clearly going to deplete the roster when he leave. Better off bringing a guy as soon as possible to start damage control,” another fan reacted.

“And unfortunately this is why I’ve just lost interest in college football. Part of it was investing in the players, following them to the NFL, etc. Now it just feels useless – Like you’re just rooting for random people every year,” one fan reacted.

“We’re going to find out Friday if they can actually block out the noise,” one fan said.

Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Future To Get Update On Friday

Lane Kiffin’s team is currently focused on the 2025 college football season. With the 10-1 record, the team is heading for the East Bowl game against Mississippi State. When asked on Monday if he would stay with the program till the end of the season, the head coach said:

“Very important, I’ve never thought of anything differently.”

Ole Miss’s athletic director, Keith Carter, also issued a statement saying that while discussions are ongoing, the team must remain focused on the season. Kiffin’s future will likely receive an update after the Egg Bowl game.
