Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders made a major call on Julian Lewis’ 2025 season.
After taking the reins from Kaidon Salter and handing it to the freshman midway into the season, Sanders told reporters that Lewis will not play in the season finale against the Kansas State Wildcats so that he preserves a full season of eligibility.
“I’ve made a decision that JuJu is going to redshirt,” Sanders said. “That’s my decision, I want what was best for the kid, what was best for his family, what’s best for this wonderful university that has given me the tremendous opportunity, given him the opportunity.
“I think for the program, it’s best for everyone. But mainly it’s great for him. So, I’m not going to say he was happy. Because he’s a competitor, he wants to compete, he wants to play, his father, they’re cut from the same cloth, we had that conversation as well.”

Upon hearing the news, fans speculated what this could really mean regarding Sanders and Lewis’ future in Boulder.
“Juju redshirts, Lane goes to LSU, Ole Miss hires Deion, Juju Transfers to Ole Miss with an extra year of eligibility,” one fan reacted.
Meanwhile, one fan wrote:
“Prime time isn’t leaving Colorado its nice there”
“This means he’s transferring. Probably gonna land at Indiana they finished 2nd in his recruiting,” one fan commented.
“This is honestly the best decision that could have been made… He got experience this year as a true freshman and next year will be a red shirt freshman with four years of eligibility,” one fan added.
“What does the red Shirt mean?” one fan asked.
“Love prime but he really sucks at coaching lol,” one fan wrote.
“Does anyone else think this was the QB’s call, not the coaches’?” one fan thinks Lewis was behind the decision,” one fan reacted.
“Must be getting something around 5 star QB..” one fan said.

Who Will Start For Deion Sanders’ Colorado After Julian Lewis Decision?
For the final regular season game of the season, Colorado will ask Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter to start the game against Kansas State. Ryan Staub will back up Salter should the need arise.
Julian Lewis could have played this game and still preserved his redshirt eligibility had he not appeared against Delaware early in the season, where he attempted just four passes.
Nonetheless, Lewis got some exposure in his first season in Boulder. In four games, he has gone 52-94 in passing for 589 yards and four touchdowns.
The Buffaloes are 3-8 and would like to end the season on a high note by winning against Kansas State.
