The Wisconsin Badgers are down by 17 at halftime in their Week 8 game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Fans are particularly disappointed with Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell’s offensive strategy against the defending champions.
In the first half, quarterback Hunter Simmons attempted only nine passes out of which he completed five for 49 yards and one interception. Fickell has let the running game do the talking but it has not led to any points on the board. This is why fans are getting frustrated with the first half performance.
“Luke Fickell is the biggest loser I’ve ever seen. Down 17-0 against the #1 team in the country and he opted to go run-run-run to end the half instead of trying to score the ball. He’s a total loser and they can’t get rid of him soon enough,” one fan wrote.

Fans asked the program to fire their head coach. One fan wrote:
“Fire Luke Fickell please @BadgerFootball”
“Luke Fickell has no interest in winning football games. He is so conservative offensively that his goal is to not get blown out “too severely”” another fan said.
“That’s awful from Luke Fickell. Showing no confidence whatsoever in the offense. That’s playing not to lose. Not to win. Which has been a recurring issue. The #Badgers will go into halftime with 2 timeouts after getting the ball with 1:07 left,” one fan added.
“When Luke Fickell came to the #Wisconsinbadgers there were visions of making the playoffs. Now there are just dreams of actually scoring. Sad,” one fan shared a harsh reality check.
“No wonder the team folds. They take after their head coach. Just an absolute coward,” one fan added.
Wisconsin’s running game has been a big issue this game. Dilin Jones, their most productive rusher, has only been able to rush 14 yards on eight carries. The statline is pretty much similar for Cade Yacamelli (seven carries for 13 yards).

Wisconsin’s Rushing Game a Big Problem
Through first six games before the Buckeyes matchup, Wisconsin is averaging 3.1 yards per carry (214 carries for 673 yards). The team is averaging 112.2 rushing yards per game, which puts them around 234th in the FBS.
Their running game has always been problematic especially against stronger programs. In the 24-10 loss to Michigan, Wisconsin was held to just 75 rushing yards and seven yards in the second half.
Luke Fickell needs to address this issue or else what’s happening so far will contine to bother them in the future games.
